Get Help Buying a Home in Kentucky

There are programs in Kentucky to help people buy homes who otherwise would not be able to afford a house or pay for repairs. You can also get help paying utility bills.

Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC)
KHC offers loans up to $4500 to cover downpayment and closing costs, as well as loans for mortgages. These loans may require a 3% downpayment, or less if you live in a rural area or you're a veteran, senior, or single parent or if you're disabled. Contact a KHC approved lender in your community.

Learn about the steps involved in getting a KHC home loan and a new home.

Kentucky Rural Development Agency
Kentucky Rural Development Agency is part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and offers home loans and home loan guarantees to low-income families. Find out if you meet the income requirements. You must live in a rural area with a population of less than 10,000 people, or less than 20,000 people if you don't live in an ineligible area.

Contact the local Rural Development Office in the area you're looking for a home. Get maps and driving directions to these offices.

The Rural Development Agency also offers low-income families loans for home repair. If you're 62 or over, you might be eligible for home repair grants, which you don't have to pay back.

Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity builds houses for hundreds of Kentucky families each year. You don't have to pay for the house, but you have to spend hundreds of hours helping build your home. Find the Habitat site near you.

Area Development Districts (ADDs)

Kentucky counties are divided into 15 ADDs, and some of these ADDs have programs to help people pay for homes and home repair. Contact your local ADD to find out if they can help you.

Community Action Agencies (CAAs)
Some CAAs provide downpayment and home repair assistance to low-income families. Contact your local CAA and find out if they can help you.

Federation of Appalachian Housing Enterprises (FAHE)
If you live in Appalachia, one of the FAHE member organizations may be able to help you buy a home. Get a list of organizations in Kentucky.

Kentucky Cares
